Fresh flowers respond quickly to heat, dirty water and blocked stems. A few minutes of care when the bouquet arrives can make a visible difference, especially in Cebu’s warm climate.
Prepare a clean vase
Wash the vase with soap and rinse it well. Bacteria in old water shorten the life of cut flowers, so cleanliness matters more than an elaborate container. Fill the vase with fresh water at a comfortable room temperature and use the flower food provided by the florist according to its instructions.
Trim the stems correctly
Remove wrapping and cut a small section from each stem with a clean, sharp tool. An angled cut increases the surface available for water uptake. Remove leaves that would sit below the waterline because submerged foliage decays quickly.
Choose a cooler position
Keep the arrangement away from direct sunlight, hot appliances and strong drafts. Fruit can release gases that speed flower aging, so avoid placing a bouquet beside a fruit bowl. An air-conditioned room can help, but flowers should not sit directly in a cold airflow.
Refresh water regularly
Check the level each day and replace cloudy water. Wash the vase, trim the stems again when needed and remove fading flowers before they affect the rest of the arrangement. Different varieties age at different rates; gentle maintenance keeps the bouquet looking balanced for longer.
